From my personal collection comes this 1880s era tobacco cutter, they would have these mounted on the counters of old general stores in the early days to cut off a slice of plug chewing tobacco from a big slab of tobacco. It works like a guilotene, t w excellent back then to cut the fingers off shoplifters the old guys use to tell me, of course it was a joke I think. Made of cast iron with the embossed name McAlpin Consumers Tobacco Co Ltd, still retains a bit of its original black paint, but has browning overall, base of knife is lead so dosn't dull the blade cast to cast, blade has two screws to replace blade or to take it off to sharpen it, has two mounting holes on end to bolt it to counter., measures 16 3/4" overall length x 3" wide at mounting base x 4" high. Weighs almost 6 pounds, so post will be between $16.00 & $20.00 depending on USA State or Canadian postal code.
