Scarce 19th-century tins depicting slaves at work Tins for coffee ["koffie"] and tea ["thee"], 19th century, lithographed tinplate with the original porcelain knobs, each approx. 7 in. tall, scattered light wear commensurate with age, very good overall.A rare and most unusual pair depicting African figures, almost certainly slaves, involved in the coffee and/or tea trade. The main portion of the scene shows a shirtless black man, dressed in blue-striped trousers, steadying a horse as an elegantly dressed lady dismounts with the assistance of a bearded white man with a wide-brimmed cane and hat. Two other black men, carrying a large bale-like burden to a pile of other, similar objects, are visible in the middle ground, while a cargo ship with a deckhand is visible in the background. The entrance of an imposing house with a wide, dramatic stairway is visible at far right. Other panels depict mountains and tropical foliage. PAYMENT/SHIPPING: Offered with no reserve!
