(*See update, below...) This Set of 12 "HB & H" mid-1800s Bone-Handled Knives & Forks was part of an estate auction. T are 6 knives and 6 forks. All with very stylish design, particularly the shape of the knife blades. SEE CLOSE-UP PHOTOS! All are hallmarked! SEE LAST PHOTO OF HALLMARKS. (I believe that HB & H is "Holmes, Booth & Hayden".) The handles are all bone, with what appears to be silver or silverplated connectors blades. Possible silverplated forged steel, as the blades have some tarnish on them. MEASUREMENTS: Each knife measures 9" long. The bone handle is 3 1/2" of that. Each fork measures 8" long. Just the bone handle is 3 3/8". CONDITION: The set is in GOOD CONDITION. The bone handles do have the typical discoloration due to their age, of varying degrees, and as you can see in the PHOTOS, and line cracks in the bone --also, due to their age. But all of their connections are firm and holding well. The metal parts have some wear in places, but nothing major. The silver knife blades and fork prongs have some typical surface scratches from usage many decades ago. (*Please note: The yellow glint on the metal in the photos is due to the flash of the camera.) *(UPDATE: I just noticed that one of the small silver connectors between the handle and one fork stem is different in pattern. The fork, however, is an exact match. It may be that the connector had to be replaced at one time. It's a small detail, but I thought I'd mention it.)
