1800s Sword/Dagger (14 " blade) - Mastodon Ivory?

I'll let the experts weigh in on this, but I am confident that this well preserved old weapon is definitely at least 150 years old and probably at least 200 years or more. Its 14 inch rigid and still fairly sharp double edged blade tapers from a maximum 1 inch width down through 1/2 and 1/8th inch, finally terminating in a very fine point. The blade has some very minor pitting that has long since stabilized and shows some beautiful patterning (patina or damascus?). It has a very substantial brass guard with acorns terminating the quillons. I'm intrigued by the handle as it appears to me to be ivory (in that it is glass smooth and has none of the small black lines that one associates with bone). If it is in fact ivory, it almost certainly would be mastodon (or mammoth) ivory given the time period of its origin. All in all, I guess one can say that this is probably a hunting sword, and probably German, but - as in many instances - it could certainly have been used as a military item or a frontier knife. With the shallowly carved fingergrips it has a very good and solid feel in the hand, even with the incomplete period repairs to the handle (see last three pictures).
