A wonderful and unique example of a very collectable Victorian 1850/1901 period bottle. Known as a Lachrymatory Tear Catcher bottle.. This is a quite unusual variety having the embossed "STAR OF DAVID" to its front panel. it is quite a RARE bottle..of this type of subject matter. It is 2 3/4 inches tall, blown into a 2 part moluld and then a tooled lip finish to its neck. In ancient times..they would collect loved ones dearly departed tears in a bottle; PSALM:56:8.says"put thou my tears into thy bottle" In the end God shall wipe away all tears.(Revelations.21:4).. It was then in the Victorian times that this type of bottle was used to collect the tears of dearly departed loved ones.To wear them wih a cord around ones neck,,this bottle has a very prominent lip where the cord could be secured against. On an anniversary of the death these tears then could be released on to the grave or if they had dried out it was the time that one could move on with ones life..the grieving period..was over. The Victorians were very traditional and had a fascination with death having collected fresh cut hair to make rings out of,to mount within glass frames cameos and the like.all from the death of a loved one.. They collected the tears of loved ones in these wonderful bottles..to wear around their necks on a cord..they believed it helped within the grieving/healing period after the death of a loved. This bottle would have been the possession of a rather rice victorian family..to go to the lengths with such elaborate embossing of the period..
