1806 Summons - Champaign County, Ohio - dated January 24. Printed form with hand-inked information in blanks provided - measures 8 x 12.5".Folded in half horizontally and then creased in thirds vertically. The form is on one side, and the back has a notation stating the names of the parties involved and listing the sums of money involved (debt, interest, damages, and Sheriffs's fees). The document has a paper seal (slip of paper with an embossed seal, affixed to the document). The summons orders the Sheriff of Champaign County, John Dougherty, see to it that of the goods and chattels of John Denney and Steritt G. Denney the sum of $80.53 cents be paid to Solomon Kelley, or barring that, that the sum be collected from their lands and tenements - and that the money be brought before the judge at the court in Springfield by the first Tuesday of May. The document is signed by the Clerk of Court, Joseph C. Vance. Documents of this nature for Ohio are not often seen dating so early in the 1800s. CONDITION: Fair only. The edges are chipped and brittle and there is browning. The edges are brittle and a bit fragile, and there are a few holes, with loss to a few words in the notation on the back and splits impinging on the signature of the the Clerk.
