This appears to be a model 1816 Springfield bayonet, but it may have been Confederate manufactured as it doesn't quite fit the US pattern. The socket measure .850 inside and it fits my 1816 Springfield perfectly. The socket length is 2 5/8" and total length is 14 3/4" with a 12" blade, 1" wide at the rear. The only mark I see is a small square punch at the rear of the blade. This does not appear to have been shortened and it is really an unusual socket bayonet.Add this to your collection of rare and unusual bayonets and have fun researching it!This may be a 1808-1812 model also, but I have not found another exact match in any reference book. This should be a great one to figure out!
