This 190 year old set of three volumes is titled "The Adventures of Gil Blas of Santillane" and is translated from the French of Le Sage by T(obias) Smollett, in three volumes with elegant engravings, printed by T Miller, 5, Noble Street, Cheapside, and published by J Mawman, Ludgate Street, and Baldwin, Cradock and Joy, Paternoster-Row, all in London, in 1819. The volumes are 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches in size, bound in brown 1/2 leather with brown, gold-decorated boards. They contain 388, 375 and 398 pages, have marbled endpapers and I believe I can see remnants of the decorated edges. T are at least 31 full page engraved plates - I may have missed a couple as I riffled through. Each volume has an owner's bookplate in the upper left corner inside the front cover, and each appears to have retaped hinges from long-ago. All three volumes are clean and tight, with some light occasional foxing and some offsetting from the plates. Vol 1 has a spot at the bottom margin affecting pages 144 through 324, but not affecting the print. T are a handful of single-page spots throughout all volumes. The bindings show moderate wear on the edges and corners, and some bruises on the boards. Overall, the set is in quite good condition. No reserve. Winning bidder to pay $4.00 for Media Mail shipping - insurance and tracking would be extra if desired. Only payment by Paypal is accepted. Thanks for looking and good luck.
