I have up for auction an 1821 Bust Quarter. I have had the coin examined by a recognized expert in the field, and he determined that the coin is the B-3 variety. This is determined from the Early Quarter Dollars of the United States book by AW Browning. The total number of pieces coined in this year was 216,851 and five varieties are known. Interestingly, in four of the varieties of this year reverse dies from 1820 were used. B-3 uses such a reverse die from 1820. As seen in the pictures, there is full Liberty visible on the obverse, and the shield lines are all visible on the reverse. This is a nice VG specimen.
