Ca 1822 Seth Thomas Pillar & Scroll Original & Working This is a very nice early Seth Thomas Pillar and Scroll form wood works clock. It has the original finish, keys, pendulum with wood rating nut, diamond shaped bone keyhole escutcheon, and weights. I believe the upper tablet is also original. It has the slight bow these clocks require to fit the movement in behind the glass without the hands rubbing. This type of glass has not been available for over 100 years. The lower tablet has a very nice reverse painted scene. Unfortunately this was damaged at some point in time. My guess is that the clock was transported with the weights and pendulum attached. The glass has been stabilized from behind with some kind of adhesive. It seems very secure. Inside the door along the top edge is a signature of some sort, and what appears to be the number 114. I have included an enhanced picture of this, but still can not really make out what it says. The clock keeps near perfect time. The E. Terry patent type movement was worked on in 1978, and the repair slip is included. All that was done to get this clock running was to apply scant drops of synthetic oil to the verge and front escape pivot. Then the weights were hung and pendulum set in motion.
