Postal History Very interesting (and early!) 3 page stampless folded letter written October 12, 1823 by John McLeod - a traveling missionary in Kingston, Jamaica and sent to Mr. Thomas Lydiard in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The letter was sent "Per favor of Captain Hunter on the BRIG NANCY" (Ship). The writer talks about their 30 day passage to Jamaica from Halifax - the fine weather and how the sun shone from the canopy of heaven, he talks about the destitution and poverty of the inhabitants of Jamaica, attempts to find a church building, and they are considering moving on to do work in St Thomas, he says there are so many young men coming in from England and Scotland, so work is scarce, he is able to make some money from book keeping, references ministers and missionaries from Scotland, talks about Captain Hunter on the Brig nancy (upon which this letter traveled) and more details. Sends greetings to his family and wife or girl friend "I am so weak with her seperation that I can hardly hold the pen....." Marvelous early maritime and missionary letter find here ! More research should reward you. Letter fully intact and in great shape - a marvelous early maritime letter find !. Terms $1.00 postage in the United States, and only $ 2.00 elsewhere. We combine postage for multiple purchases. Postal insurance and registration extra. We're members of the American Philatelic Society.
