A rare piece of historical Staffordshire pottery. c. 1824, Staffordshire George Washington & Lafayette Historical Liverpool Creamware Pitcher, 5" height Commemorative Staffordshire Pitcher made in the early 1800`s to commemorate a visit of General Lafayette to the U.S. in the year 1824, having a portrait of Washington on one side, and Lafayette on the other, and a third impressive transfer image located below the spout is a large Heraldic American Eagle with laurel branch & arrows in its claws. At the black transfer portrait of George Washington, on the top rim, reads the historic legend: " First in War, First in Peace, and First In The Hearts of His Fellow Citizens ". Opposite is a portrait of Lafayette with a legend reading: "In Commemoration, of The Visit, Of, Gen, L LaFayette, To The U,S, Of America, In The Year 1824 ". Surrounding his bust portrait the words " FAYETTE" & "THE NATIONS GUEST". This rare historic Pitcher has multiple historical markings and quotes. The pitcher was commemorating the visit of General Lafayette to the U.S. in 1824. ''Republicans Are Not Always Ungrateful'' printed above the potter's mark of Richard Hall & Sons (red arrow points to mark in photo; plus a close-up in last photo.) Condition : The pitcher is in excellent condition based on the 1824 age. No chips or scratches. There is very fine crazing. There is a very fine crack at the spout that is slightly visible when closely examined and there is an even finer line inside near the handle. They seem to be due to age because this pitcher has been well cared for and stored. The transfers are in clear and excellent condition. It is a rare piece of history and an excellent piece for a serious collector or a museum . Important note about seller: I am not a dealer, collector, or historian. This piece has been in my family for years. I am selling it to start a new business so please help me by bidding. I have tried to be as honest as possible in the discription of the pitcher but feel free to ask any questions. I will definitely answer you asap. Thanks everyone! Nancy
