Postal History Early, rare and valuable 3 page stampless folded MISSISSIPPI letter here ! This letter was penned May 25, 1825 by David E. Moore in Washington, Mississippi and sent to his sister Miss Eliza H. Moore in Petersburg, Virginia "to the care of Jas Brandel..." The writer implores his sister to move to Mississippi and become a badly needed music teacher. He has a nice room ready for her in house, says she will have friends, ladies in town have formed a vocal group etc... "I have zealously made inquisition concerning the success of musical talents, it is the very great desire of many respectable families that you would come to this country as there is but one teacher of musick in the country, and as he belong to the contrary sex, is one principal objection. I know you might, or can get 12 or 15 as a surety. I pledge myself - one thing I would advise you - endeavor to acquire the knowledge of tuning instruments...." He goes on to talk about an orphan boy that he has adopted and how Mississippi is a much better place for young boys to grow up (uses the term "manship....") Marvelous letter here and more study should further reward you. Postmark is a seldom found Washington, Mi manuscript with a bold 25 cent rate mark. Mississippi had only become a state in the year 1817. Letter fully intact and in great shape Terms $1.00 postage in the United States, and only $ 2.00 elsewhere.
