EARLY1825STAFFORDSHIRERECTANGULARSUGAR BOX"THE GLEANER"?UNKNOWN MAKERAPPROX. MEAS.6"H by 6"W by 4"D weight 1LB 1.0ozunmarked on bottom This is a gorgeous piece of transferware. Old, early, and just has soul. Came from a wonderful old estate auction held in the Midwest. Owner loved her Staffordshire and this is one of many pieces from her estate. The condition has apologies. T is some staining and crazing to the bottom, the finial has been repaired, t is an old chip to the lid, and the side handles are gone! and yet, despite all the apologies, I love this piece. I love the early earthenware feel and love the bright blue and white transfer scene. Depicts a kneeling women with her whippet dogs and a nobleman. T is also a small village and wonderful trees. The floral pattern is fantastic. Bright, colourful, blooms and blossoms decorate the piece. Blue tones are rich and deep against the crisp white ground. T is no maker's mark on the bottom. I think this is great piece. cheerful and "perfect" as is. Would make a fantastic addition to any collection or display of early Blue/White transferware from the era. If you have any questions or wish additional pictures, I am happy to assist. I shall wrap your bowl with extreme care and ship him home to you within one day.
