I hope you are having a great day and look forward to Christmas. Please understand that I'm not an Ebay dealer and my listings are all from the collection of writer Joel Rothschild (search online). I'm his assistant and we are clearing out his storage since he moved to a smaller home. These listings are true auctions with no reserve and a great chance to buy a Christmas gift that is an investment. My listings are guaranteed as described. Letters of provenace and the appraisal's will be included in the sale. I know this is a long description but this is an historic Sampler that comes from one of America's most loved stars please consider reading it. This originally came from the collection of Mr. Fred MacMurray. This 1826 needlework is a tribute to our Lord Jesus Christ. and the enduring The Holy Spirit . This is the perfect Christmas gift: a rare early 19th Century American Sampler with an important Christian theme and historical significance. Mr.Fred MacMurray was a deeply spiritual Christain and his grandfather was a Presbyterian minister. This was a MacMurry family heirloom for several generations with ties to John and Charles Westley. This Sampler has been conservatively estimated by Bonhams and Butterfield's to have a value of $700.00 to $900.00 This Sampler has a second expert appraisal that places the replacement value of this piece at $2000 as "American Folk Art". The winning bidder will be given full documentation from Bonhams and Butterfield's, the second appraisal and a signed letter from Mr. Rothschild who purchased this from the Mac Murray estate. This Sampler is in an early solid wood period frame with Gilt on the front. We think it may the orginal frame as this has been in the Mac Murray family for generations. The sampler is made of silk threads on linen background. Louisa Baldwyn's 1826 Needlework Sampler done when she was 10 years old. is titled: "THE CHARACTER OF CHRIST". Louisa was only one generation removed from the American Revolution and 180 years later the truth of her Christain Verse is as important as ever. Her sampler features reads: Behold w in a mortal form, appears each grace divine. The virtues all in Jesus meet with mildest radiance shine. Lowly in heart by all his friends. A friend and servant found. He washed theri feet he wiped their tears and healed each bleeding wound. By Christ my pattern and my guide. His image may I bear, O may I trace his sacred steps and bright glories share. Size of the sampler is 16.75" x 12.5". The condition is in fair to good for it's age: with some losses and fading. It has not been examined out of the frame. This sampler is a fine example of a young girls needlework done in the 1 st part of the 19 th Century. As a 10 year old, Louisa stitched very nicely. By repute: Louisa was the granddaughter or great grandduaghter of Sir Timothy Baldywn of England. Her family migrated to the new world with MacMurrays, The Wesleys and General Olgelthorpe. Any similar sampler and period frame are worth the price I've listed. However: given the profound Christian conscious of the verse, it's provenance (Mr. Fred MacMurry) and reputed ties to 18th Century Evangelism and the founder of Wesleyan tradition this is an important Sampler that deserves a home in a fine Christian collection. The Winning Bidder will receive all the appropriate documentation from Bonhams & Butterfield's, the aforementioned second appraisal and a letter of Provenance signed by Mr. Rothschild. Please note that the second appraisal includes the transcript of a letter dated June 1928 from Maleta Martin MacMurray (mother) to Mr. MacMurray about this sampler. which reads: Text from letter addressed to Mr.Frederick MacMurray from Maleta Martin MacMurray dated June 25, 1928 which reads: My Dearest Frederick, I write about the American Needleworks that I now send and father. By repute The Baldywin Family, The Rhodes Family, and The Charles and John Wes...
