This 1828 Capped Bust Quarter Dollar is the very Scarce to RARE... 25/50 C. Reverse Variety. This is a coin that you can throw out the price guides on, just try finding one! It is estimated that less than 80 or so examples are known to exist in all grades. See the macro close-up I have provided, you can plainly see the strong remains of the original 50 C. under the 25 C. This coin grades VG with a nice album toned look. The surfaces are nice with no really heavy problem marks or hits. There are some very fine micro hairlines from mishandling over the years, note under LIBERTY, and one old toned over pin mark between stars 11 and 12... and that is about it as far as any negatives. Just a very desirable example of this very tough variety. Recent auction sales of this coin, in this grade, have been in the 2K plus range. Here is a great opportunity to finally acquire this tough coin! This coin would make a welcome addition to a high grade set.
