The full title of this volume is " A Political and Civil History of the United States of America from the Year 1763 to the Close of the Administration of President Washington, in March, 1797" including a summary view of the Political and Civil State of the North American Colonies prior to that period. by Timothy Pitkin in two volumes of which this is volume one only This historic reference book was published in 1828 by Hezekiah Howe and Durrie & Peck in New Haven. It contains 10 chapters and 528 pages covering "Origins of the English and French claim to North America" to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. There is an engraved portrait of Washington by J H Nesmith on the frontis. It is in fair but very readable condition with the front board and three pages prior to the title page detached. The remainder of the binding is sound but lightly toned and foxed throughout.
