This cup and saucer was made between 1818 and 1829, nearly 200 years ago. Manufactured at Cobridge, England, it is marked "Clews Warranted Staffordshire " with an impressed mark in the 'Stone China'. The glaze is very dark indigo with flowers and leaves and 2 dogs featured. T have been no repairs to these pieces and they have always been in our family. These early Staffordshire plates have three small raised marks on the back; hints of stilts used for support during the original firing. The saucer measures approximately 5-3/4 inches diameter and about 1-1/8 inch tall. The cup measures approximately 4 inches diameter and 2-1/2 inch tall. The saucer is without chips but has a hairline crack as seen in the photos. It is easy to see on the back of the plate but not on the front. T is one hairline crack in the cup as well. You can barely feel the crack on the outside. It is difficult to see it because it is very fine. T are 2 small places in the bottom of the cup which are remnants from firing and are fixed in the glaze. The cup has one tiny chip on the foot of the cup. Any questions will be answered as soon as possible.
