Antique SMALL homemade and handmade pine wood dome top paper decoupage covered trunk with it's original handmade & homemade hardware , old blue paper ground with mounted pictorial woodcut printed paper prints on the whole exterior and retaining it's original old surface and attic soiling, as found. Tucked up in the attic 150 years ago this once very personally made miniature trunk waited for our discovery. The wooden trunk is all handmade with carefully carved pine wood pieces cautiously nailed together with square nails and tiny wood pegs. On the front is a small handmade & hand cut tin hasp. The lid hinges are handmade from bent wire. The interior once had whittled & pegged lid guards on the three back sides but only the rear guard remains while the tiny pegs are still in place from the two missing side guards. Upon this handmade hand carved wonder a light blue paper once covered the whole exterior. On to this paper carefully chosen printed woodcuts were cut out and pasted to the paper. The rear of the box has the wording "THE IMPROVED BOY" at the bottom. The sides have the letters "G" "O" and "W" "I" respectively. A steamboat, buggies, wild animal scenes and ...two pails and three andirons (!) are included in the rest of the pictorial array. Someone, a long time ago, spent a great deal of time and effort to make this very special box as a keepsake gift for another. Precious, the total handmade qualities including the micro pegging, pine wood and select arranged woodcuts spell out SPECIAL on this... love token. From son to mother? From love to lover? in an old Maine attic we have found and offer a very singular keepsake trunk having fine age, early decoupage craft and wood carver's skill beyond anything else we have found in this estate. This is a lovely miniature trunk. Very good as found condition. As found, the wooden trunk is in fine original condition having the noted lid guards lacking and a single old chip at the front right of the lid. This last was probably caused in the making when the nails were put in. Otherwise the decoupage paper has the usual light wear with chipping and loss to the blue paper ground at all edges and at numerous places on all sides but with very little loss and wear to the wood cuts. Charming, the trunk is right out of the attic and untouched, as found. It is a masterpiece of a small homemade & handmade keepsake box. It has been in that attic at least 150 years. Right out of the attic, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and soiling for it's age and from it's old Maine estate residence Please see photographs. As found this past March in an estate in Black Point , Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in the attic. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this attractive & miniature early handmade keepsake trunk for $4.99 NR.
