Hogan of Philadelphia, and its entire title is a mouthful: "The New Universal Letter Writer or The Art of Polite Correspondence. containing A Course of Interesting Letters, ON THE MOST IMPORTANT, INSTRUCTIVE, AND ENTERTAINING SUBJECTS ." This book provides instruction on letters concerning love, courtship, economy, retirement, trade, from parents to children; servants to masters; etc...In short, the entire realm of human intercourse purports to be addressed by this book and, as an added bonus, the authors provide a Set of Complimentary Cards for use on occasions when "an Extraordinary Degree of Politeness Should be Observed." The book is printed on a parchment-like paper that shows some water marks on occasion, but no foxing. The rebinding of the book in Red Leather is likely responsible for the excellent condition of its contents. This book is a must for the student of 19th Century society, morality, manners, & culture.
