Up for auction is an early American ancient Greek text, entitled GREEK EXERCISES; Containing the Substance of the Greek Syntax, Illustrated by Passages from the Best Greek Authors, to Be Written Out From the Words Given in Their Simplest Form , by Benjamin Franklin Fisk. Published in Boston by Hilliard, Gray, Little, and Wilkins in 1831. 171 pages. FIRST EDITION. An intriguing work that uses isolated passages from ancient Greek texts to teach the reading and writing of ancient Greek. Frontispiece plate contains the Greek alphabet written in various styles. Book bound in full calf. Hinges firm and leather in nice shape. There is the residue of tape on the spine; this appears to have been affixed to hold a label, because there is no damage to the spine that tape might have repaired. The rear 70 pages have a dark ink stain along the bottom edge of the pages, but this never affects the text and is strictly marginal. Book in GOOD PLUS to VERY GOOD condition overall. Scarce.
