I am listing some more Old Books this week. is an Early American 1832 School History-Atlas Book, "THE FIRST BOOK OF HISTORY. FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH." BOSTON: RICHARDSON, LORD, & HOLBROOK. 1832. Book is 7-1/8" x 5-3/8" with it's original leather end-spine. Book has all 16 maps in the rear (I do notice that 2 leaves of text are missing between p.14-19- I didn't count every page, but I haven't noticed any other missing pages) Full page maps of all the different States and Territories of the period. Wonderful little engravings of American scenes as well in the pages, including one of a recent Sea-Serpent sighting off the Isle of Shoals off New Hampshire explained as follows: "A sea-serpent was seen by several people near these islands, a short time ago. He came so near to a boat, that a man who was in it could have struck him with an oar. His color was nearly black; he was larger round than the body of a man, and he seemed about as long as the mast of a vessel." The book is heavily worn with ragged page edges. Text block is loose from the binding with some pages partially dettached. Some pages have tears to edges and stains. The majority of the maps are in decent condition with various degrees of soiling areas (see photos). Old owners names in pencil inside the front cover is only marking I see.
