You are bidding on a very beautiful engraved and rare 100% original and authentic 176 year old hand colored antique map of the above region from the extremely rare "New General Atlas" by Malte-Brun. This is an investment grade map and will continue to rise in value over time due to the extreme scarcity of the atlas and the map. The map is a 100% authentic original antique map and is not a reproduction!!Cartographer/Publisher: Conrad Malte-Brun (1755-1826) was an important late 18th / early 19th century French cartographer and revolutionary. Despite frequent arrests and even banishment for defying the Imperial ambitions of Napoleon Bonaparte, Conrad Malte-Brun is regarded as one of the finest French cartographers of his time. At the height of his career he founded the Geographical Society of Paris. His son Victor Adolphe Malte-Brun (1816-1889) followed in his footsteps, republishing many of the original 18th century maps as well as producing numerous maps of his own. The firm operated will into the 1880s. General Description: 1. Stunning and unbelievably colorful map of the region, with details of cities, rivers, land masses, and waterways . Notice the incredibly beautiful and detailed original hand coloring. The map depicts the region in considerable detail and includes both political and topographical information. The map is far more beautiful than my pictures show and is in great condition. My photos do not even come close to showing the brilliant colors and details on the map. 2. The map is in great condition considering the age of the map. The overall size of the map sheet is large at approximately 9 inches by 11 inches. The map will look incredibly beautiful when matted and framed for display. 3. The map is a 100% original and genuine antique map. I will send you a copy of the title page for your records. 4. Original maps from this atlas sell for hundreds of dollars. Map Collecting: Maps are great gifts and perfect decorative additions to any home or office. They are compelling objects that instantly grab people's attention and transport them to a different time and place. Owning an antique map is much like owning a window into the past. An antique map can be a veritable passage back in time, allowing one to imagine the world much as the mapmaker himself did 100, 200 or even 300 years ago! These are great collectibles not only for their decorative and art value but as a financial investment as well. Remember, these are becoming more rare everyday as collectors purchase them, and of course they are not making the atlases any longer, so purchase a map while they are still affordable. All of my maps are investment grade and collectible quality. The value of this original will only increase over time. Many people are now starting to offer cheap reproductions/copies.
