Juvenile Miscellany.� Vol. IV.� Nos. I, II, & III. [By Mrs. D. L. ChildBoston: Putnam & Hunt].� Contemporary signature dated 1835.Lacks a general title page.� Leather spines and corners, 3 ¾ x 5 ¾, 324 pp., “Index to Vol. IV.” at back, light foxing, somewhat shaken, worn at the spine ends (see pics). This has several engravings, including one of “Eddystone Lighthouse in a Storm.” There is a long article about Lydia Maria Child at Wikipedia, to which we send you for more information.� That article states that the Juvenile Miscellany was the first monthly periodical for children in the United States, begun in 1826.� If you have ever sung “Over the River and Through the Wood” you have sung one of Child’s poems.
