You are bidding on a very beautiful engraved and rare 100% original and authentic 169 Year Old hand colored antique map of the above region from the extremely rare and much sought after 1838 edition of "An Illustrated Atlas, Geographical, Statistical, And Historical, Of The United States And The Adjacent Countries". By T.G. Bradford . This is an investment grade map and will continue to rise in value over time due to the extreme scarcity of the atlas and the map. The map is 100% authentic and is not a reproduction. The price of this particular edition of this atlas is currently valued between $15,000 to $17,500. Publication Note: 1st edition. This is Bradford's best atlas, far superior to the smaller Comprehensive Atlas. The maps are engraved by G.W. Boynton, except for Mississippi, which is engraved by S. Stiles, Sherman and Smith. Fielding Lucas drew, but did not engrave, the Delaware map. General Description: 1. A very good wide margin example of the first edition of Bradford's map. The map is hand colored by counties and shows very early railroads, towns, rivers and other details. Includes very early rail lines. Note that many of the state counties are still under early development. A good example in full orginal color, from this very scarce atlas, which is now selling for over $17,000 in its complete form. The hand coloring is 100% original as issued in the atlas. The map is far more beautiful than my pictures show and is in excellent condition. 2. The map is in excellent condition considering the age of the map. The overall size of the map sheet is large at approximately 17 inches by 15 inches. 3. The map is a 100% original and genuine antique map. "Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year 1838 by TG Bradford" is actually printed on the map and proves the printing year. Please see photo. 4. Full retail value is $600 and up depending on the map from this atlas. Map Collecting: Maps are great gifts and perfect decorative additions to any home or office. They are compelling objects that instantly grab people's attention and transport them to a different time and place. Owning an antique map is much like owning a window into the past. An antique map can be a veritable passage back in time, allowing one to imagine the world much as the mapmaker himself did 100, 200 or even 300 years ago!
