Title: The Fruit of the Spirit. Author: George W. Bethune, D.D. Dr. Bethune, a Dutch Reformedminister, was born in New York City on March 18, 1805. In 1825 he was ordained into the ministry by the New York Presbytery. He served for one year as a naval chaplain at Savannah, and then became pastor at the Reformed Protestant Church at Rhinebeck. In 1830, he moved to Utica and pastored there. In 1834 he moved to Philadelphia and pastored the Crown Street church, or the Third Reformed Dutch Church. In 1849 he pastored at Brooklyn. In 1859 he resigned and spent a year in Europe because of his health. Later he became associate pastor of Dr. Van Nest’s church in New York. Dr. Bethune died on April 27, 1862, while on another health tour to Europe. He was a man who devoted himself to have literature on special doctrines published for the masses. His writings include: The Fruit of the Spirit; Lays of Love and Faith; Lectures on the Heidelberg Catechism; History of a Penitent ; and several others.
