MORMON TROUBLES IN ILLINOIS - old residents of that county (Shelby) embraced the Mormon faith - these were assaulted by a mob - the Mormons applied with Judge Breese for warrants to arrest the 15 leaders of the mob and called Col. James W. Vaughan and regiment out to arrest them, but some refused, and the troops retreated - page three - 2 column inches
