Antique large handmade maple hardwood wooden gear probably from an early piece of mechanical farm equipment with it's original gear teeth on the outer edge, it's original large square center hole, it's original old smooth surface and retaining it's original old, dry, oxidized & age toned surface, as found. Maine , 1840's, probably earlier. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1 lbs. 1 1/4" thick by 6" in diameter. We found this on a shelf in the tool shed in the barn. We are the first to pick this up in at least a century. It stands right out to the antiquarian eye but had rested in neglect on the shelf. What is was "to" or "for" we have no idea. We do highly respected it's careful make, it's fine old surface and it's evidence of usage long ago. Very good as found condition. Aside from it's old usage wear and 100 years and more of barn shelf storage soiling and age toning, the old wooden gear is in fine condition. T are many minor old wear chips on the edges of the gear teeth with one larger and more recent chip on one gear tooth. The whole gear does appear that it would still "work" should that be what one is seeking. Right out of the barn tool shed, it has appropriate surface oxidation, age toning and light soiling for it's age and from it's old farm residence. Please see photographs.
