this is truly a very fine example of the issue--the 18401d is a plate 2--the black is very dark and saturated and contrasts with the white nicely--there are 4 margins--as can be seen in the scan--the right left and bottom are good--the top one tapers down to very close at the top left but with a scope you can still see the white of the selvedge prior to cutting into the stamp so it is in that sense barely but truly 4 margins--
the red maltese cross cancel is as you see it--rather indistinct but it is the second cancel on the stamp because with a lens you can read an earlier black cancel/cds under it with text and numbers--i can't decipher it but there are 2 distinct cancels on this single stamp-- there is faint evidence of a watermark but i can't identify it with the equipment at hand--but the back is very solid-- I’m a former Ebay Power Seller and long time APS memberreturning after almost a year away from selling my 3 generation collection. I have perfect feedback in over 3000 transactions with satisfied customers all over the world. I’m back with many beautiful stamps to offer. In the advent of an inadvertently misrepresented stamp please notify me for immediate refund. I am the kind of seller I always looked for as a buyer--not a big company with lots of overhead and yet with perfect feedback, not yet "discovered," offering very good prices on fine collectibles. I offer the stamps in the order I uncover them so there is no logic to what comes up next--from the rare to the mundane. I combine s/h for all items won within 7 days--forgive me for not extending this longer but i am only one person and if i allow inventory to build up i'm worried I’ll misplace it. For that reason I would also request immediate payment by pay pal when possible.I will only ship to Italy and Russian Federation and China by registered mail so please contact for a quote if you're interested. i have a number of friendly ebayers as well as a local collector advise me that this may not be the usual Maltese Cross cancel but some odd variant--when seen through a very good lens it does indeed have major shape deviations from the standard cross pattern--worth mentioning. Also--i plated this stamp myself--i confess to being very average at this but in this case i was sure enough to go forward and call it a Plate 2. I've been since told that it may well be Plate 1a--I mention this and if there are experts who can shed more light on this they are welcome to do so--in the past i've had great wisdom imparted by fellow collectors willing to share their expertise in this filed where mine is admittedly limited.
