Excellent example with almost all of the original gilt on the hilt. Silver wrap on grip just about perfect. Folding counter guard missing the retaining button. Photos do not show the beautiful detail of this almost mint blade. T are profuse floral and miltary designs including eagle with riband. Owners name "W. W. Chapman" etched on blade. Blade marked on ricasso "S&K". Minor roughness on last two inches of blade. Chapman graduated fom West Point in 1837 and served in Florida, Texas, and along the NewYork/Canadian border. He was made Bvt. Major for gallant and meritorious conduct at the battle of Buena Vista during the Mexican War. A fine sword difficult to find. Scabbard is covered with shagreen. Top mount has most of the original gilt while drag does not. Very sound scabbard. Three day inspection period, with refund of purchase price, less shipping and insurance, if not satisfied.
