is a very unusual and rare presidential campaign ribbon from 1840, the year of "Tippecanoe And Tyler, Too" in which William Henry Harrison won election in the most riotous campaign in our history. This ribbon is unusual because it doesn't feature a drawing/sketch of the candidates. Instead, it features the ship used by Commodore Oliver Perry at the Battle Of Lake Erie in the War Of 1812. It is a beautiful and rare ribbon and is unlisted in the guides. The ribbon is from an event, the Miami Valley (Ohio) Convention held in Dayton, Ohio on September 10, 1840. Technically, the purpose of this convention was to Commemorate Perry's victory over the British on September 10, 1813. So this convention was held on the 37th anniversary of that famous battle. The text of the ribbon reads: "Miami Valley Convention In Commemoration Of Perry's Victory On Lake Erie. Held in Dayton, September 10, 1840, by the friends of Harrison and Tyler. At the moment that Perry commenced the action, he hoisted a large flag, until then unseen by and unknown to his officers, upon which, legible to the whole fleet and the enemy, were these words, 'Don't GIVE UP THE SHIP!' 'In fact, sir, I may say, that without these men (you sent on board the squadrom,) the Victory could not have been achieved' (Perry's Letter to Harrison). HONOR THE BRAVE" Quite a lot of words t This is a beautiful and unusual ribbon. PROVENANCE: Purchased a while back from Heritage Auction Galleries in Dallas, Texas. It is the largest collectibles auctioneer in the country. Condition: T is some light fraying on both ends, to be expected of a ribbon this old. Some light staining on ribbing, particularly on right edge. All in all, call it Very Good +. It has been archivally sealed. Measurements: Nearly 9" long by 3" wide. Bidding for this rare piece of Americana opens at $49.99. I do have a moderate reserve in order to protect my original investment. Estimated value is approximately $600.00. I will require insurance on this item due to its rarity. Shipping cost will be approximately $7.50 . I accept PayPal and money orders. Good luck!
