Antique handmade cut, bent and soldered sheet iron tin TINY flat top document box with it's original vibrant red paint and gold floral stenciled decoration on the lid top in exceptionally well preserved condition and retaining it's original old dry surface as found. New England , probably Maine , 1840's. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1/4 lbs. 3" wide by 1 3/4" tall by 2 1/8" deep. Antique handmade cut, bent and soldered sheet iron tin TINY flat top document box with it's original vibrant red paint and gold floral stenciled decoration on the lid top in exceptionally well preserved condition and retaining it's original old dry surface as found. We found this in a dresser drawer in a bedroom of the Victorian addition to the main house. Once this was a daughter's bedroom but had been a little used guest bedroom for over a century. "Guests" did not stay long and were rarely invited to the homestead I was told by the elder neighbor who became my personal council during the clean out once he discerned I would make him do no actual work. He said "She didn't like 'em to HANG ON in her summer. COURSE they wood-ANT stay to WINTER." So the dresser in the bedroom that might have been her grandmother's 1850 "transitional" Empire-Victorian style "4 drawer" of "thick old mahogany ven-NEER" was pretty much left alone for a century including it's scanty contents. This... sweetheart... was in the top drawer. It's remarkably well preserved condition; bright paint, shiny tin and golden floral stencil, is due to this outstanding storage circumstance. "NICE" this little keepsake box has just sat in t "forever". Very good as found condition. The box is totally untouched as found and has the obvious & typical yet very minor red paint loss, lightest age toning, minor surface abrasions, most minor interior surface rust, minor exterior scratches and edge wear. Right out of the old dresser, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and soiling for it's age and from it's old Maine estate residence. Please see photographs. As found this last August in an estate in Montville , Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in a dresser drawer in an old bedroom. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good one to us! We offer this early, TINY and beautifully preserved red painted tole tin document box for $4.99 NR..
