Original 1840's illustrated tradecard for A. Van Cleemputte, seller of wallpaper and carpets in Ghent. Click on the picture(s) to enlarge. Description: Printer : Gyselynck Printer's address : Ghent Printing type : colour iredescence* Colors used : Gold, blue & reddish metallic Illustration details : A gorgeous decorated border with rolls of wallpaper and draped cloth. Language : French text. A superbly illustrated, rare tradecard and approx. 150 years old Size & Condition: Size : App. 10.6 x 8 cm. Condition : In a very good condition.(see scan) Gluemarks at the back. * This process, called, 'carton porçelaine' because it was more or less the first time glossy paper could be made and it had the glossy appearence of china, appeared typically in Belgium (and almost exclusively t around 1840 and was abolished in the 1860's, when it became clear that the use of metallic colour powders and lead oxides was dangerous to the printers.
