First Edition. Octavo. 9 x 5½ inches. 704 pp. Complete. Interesting use of several different typefaces for the title page. Bound in full leather with a red morocco spine label. Covers ruled in blind. Front hinge is split but still attached. Covers are rubbed and edgeworn, with a contemporary signature on front cover. T is some fairly heavy foxing to the pastedowns, and general discoloration to the pages with a few small stains from some ancient pressed clovers, but the book is clean with no markings or marginalia.William Henry Harrison (February 9, 1773 – April 4, 1841) was an American military officer and politician, the ninth President of the United States, and the first president to die in office. When Harrison came to Washington, he wanted to show that he was still the steadfast hero of Tippecanoe. He took the oath of office on March 4, 1841, a cold and wet day. Nevertheless, he faced the weather with neither his overcoat nor hat, and delivered the longest inaugural address in American history. At 8,444 words, it took nearly two hours to read, even after his friend and fellow Whig Daniel Webster had edited it for length. From Wikipedia article .
