You are bidding on a very beautiful engraved and rare 100% original and authentic 165 year old hand colored antique map of the above region and printed in the above year from Jeremiah Greenleaf's New Universal Atlas. These atlas are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Complete atlases are currently being offered at antiquarian bookstores at prices that can range between $5,000 to $12,000 !!! Individual maps can sell for many hundereds of dollars at map and art galleries. This is NOT a copy or reproduction and is an original!! Publisher: Jeremiah Greenleaf (1791-1864) is a little known but highly admired American cartographer of the early 19th century. He published from roughly 1830 to 1850. His most important work, A New Universal Atlas; Comprising of all the Principal Empires, Kingdoms, & States Throughout the World and Forming a distinct Atlas of the United States . Many of his maps are reformatted versions of his contemporary David Burr's seminal cartographic works. Greenleaf's maps are extremely rare and admired for their stunningly vivid pastel color washes.
