Awesome Letter !!

Remarkable and historic early PEORIA, Illinois stampless folded letter - 3+ (really 4 pages) written April 1, 1842 (April Fool's Day !) by Sophia Woodbury in Peoria and sent to her daughter Mrs. Sally Wilber (or a very close spelling) in Chardon, in Geauga County, Ohio. Extremely detailed letter here about bad flooding in Peoria, flooding out Sophia's home near the waterfront of the Illinois River on Main Street in downtown Peoria, how they used a canoe to get inside the house, tying the canoe on the SECOND FLOOR of the flooded home's stair case, and removing as many articles as they could, then a canal boat was positioned to remove larger items, children were sent away via steamboat to get away from the bad CHOLERA EPIDEMIC that was killing people, many funerals in the Peoria area, others went away to the Prairie (outlying towns), also references "Mansion" in Lancaster - not sure where this is. Much to read and study in this amazing Peoria letter, probably the best Peoria letter I've ever read !! Enlarged scans provided for your research benefit. Postmark is a red Peoria CDS with a 10 cents in cogged circle. Nice fancy rate mark too ! Letter fully intact and in excellent condition. TERRIFIC piece of early Illinois postal history !.
