Remarkable content in this long and detailed 3+ page stampless folded letter written Thursday September 14, 1843 by "Eliza" (last name could be Robertson) in New Iberia, Louisiana and sent to her "beloved" William Robertson in Bolivar, Hardeman County, Tennessee. This is primarily a very gushy love letteer in which Eliza wishes she could have a carpet found in Arabian Nights to whisk her way to visit William in Bolivar. Loads of family news, and then she references an earthquake in Memphis that has badly frightened everyone and there is fear another will come and destroy the city. Then she also discusses a duel between Mr. LaBranche of New Orleans and Mr. Hueston of Baton Rouge. LaBranche was the loser and his body was sent to his wife who only found out about the duel after the fact and after her husband had been killed.... Postmark is a New Iberia, La town manuscript with a nice 25 cent rate mark. Letter fully intact and in great shape. Red wax seal remains for a nice touch.
