Beautiful and quite rare, 1845 Andrew Jackson Silk Mourning Ribbon. This outstanding printed silk ribbon measures approx. 3" by 7 1/4" and features a bust portrait of Jackson at the top surrounded by Flags and surmounted by a spread wing eagle. The Ribbon also features an image of Jackson as a General directing an Army at the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812 along with Jackson's Tomb at The Hermitage.Text on the Ribbon reads "June 24th, 1845 / To Commemorate the Death of General Andrew Jackson / Born March 15th, 1767 / Died June 8th, 1845 / Aged 73 Years". There is also a quote from Andrew Jackson at the bottom of the Ribbon that reads "The Blessings of Government like the dews of Heaven, should descend alike on the rich and poor". The Ribbon carries the mark of the manufacturer - "Sold By S. G. Steck(?)".This rare and fascinating, Andrew Jackson Mourning Ribbon is in good condition only. While the Ribbon is generally clean, there is wear, damage and some loss along the left hand edge. The Ribbon is mounted on a very early paper backing that appears to be a portion of a page from a very early political subject Scrap Book. While we are certain that a professional conservator could remove this backing we STRESS that one should not attempt to simply submerge this Ribbon in water as that could very easily damage the delicate read more
