Postal History Fantastic and very detailed 3+ page stampless folded letter written October 29, 1847 by Mark Percival in Paris, France and sent "per steamship via Liverpool & Boston" to his brother Thomas Percival at Marshall Street, 8th door above Poplare Street, Spring Garden, Philadelphia, America...." Writer is traveling in France and England buying cloth for the family textile business. He writes and extremely detailed letter about his trip, talks about swatches, chintzes, plates for making cloth (calico pattersn) and gives an interesting assessment of market conditions, what the French are doing with patterns, European clothing styles etc.... I just skimmed this one quickly but clearly substantive content here and more study will no doubt reward you. The writer crammed information in the margins and made use of all available space. Postmark includes a Manchester (England) red split double ring with manuscript 2 and green circle 12. I believe the letter was penned in Paris but then mailed a few days latter in Manchester. Letter is fully intact and in great shape Terms $ 1.00 postage in the United States, and $ 2.00 elsewhere. We combine postage for multiple purchases. Postal insurance and registration extra.
