Offered is a ca. 1850 to 1890 Josef Lederer guitar. Germany. Very good playable condition. Dimensions: Overall length: 35-1/4"Body length: 17-7/16"Upper bout width: 9-3/16"Center bout width: 7"Lower bout width: 11-11/16"Rib height: 2-5/8" treble; 3-1/4" center; 3-1/16" bassSound hole diameter: 2-3/4"Nut width: 1-13/16"Width at 12th fret: 2-3/16"Scale length: 24-1/16"String height at 12th fret: 5/64" Label: Josef Lederer Instrumentenfabrik 8 Luitpoldstr. Munchen Luitpoldstr. 8 Filiele: Schellingstrasse 112. The build date of this guitar is based on the fact that all instruments exported to the USA after 1891 were required to have the country of origin , i.e., Germany, etc. clearly indicated on labeling. I am leaning toward the 1850 date because the guitar has an 'ice cream' cone neck heel. The builder, Josef Lederer, is obscure. I have found a few references of Josef Heinz Lederer, who either composed, or edited classical music. Also, I found reference to a Horst Lederer who built harp guitars in the 19th century. Conrad Lederer built violas and perhaps violins in Strasbourg, Germany ca. 1945. The Lederer name (English trans: Leatr) can be traced back to the late 16th century, and many Lederers' were/are artists, involved with music: composers, instrument makers, garment makers, or physicians.This guitar has very good tone,
