Contained in this offering are two famous maps: Lt. Derby's Sketch of General Riley's Route Through the Mining Districts, dated 1849 (California Gold Rush) and the 1850 version of the Fremont/Preuss map of Oregon and Upper California, dated 1848! Message from the President of the United States, Communicating Information called for by a Resolution of the Senate of the 17 Instant, in Relation to California and New Mexico, January 24, 1850 (Zachary Taylor) Thirty-first Congress, First Session, Doc. No. 18, Senate, Washington; 1850. First edition, Octavo, 952 pp. plus 7 b&w maps (6 folding, 1 single page). Lithography by Ackerman, NY and E. Weber & Co., Baltimore. Condition: Contents: The seven maps accompanying the documents are: "Plan of the Military Fortifications of Fort Hill, Monterey", dated 1847 (10 inches x 1 foot 3 3/4 inches). Sketch of the Presidio, San Francisco (9 3/4 inches x 1 foot 1/2 inch) Sketch of Lower California (1 foot 1 inch x 1 foot 3 inches) "Sketch of the Port of Escondido" (1 foot x 9 inches), "Sketch of General Riley's Route through the Mining Districts in July and August 1849" (1 foot 8 inches x 2 feet 1 inch ). This map shows and names many gold mining camps in the Sierra foothills, many for the first time (i.e., Coloma (spelled Colluma), Jamestown, Sonora, Curtis, Sullivan's, and others). "Map of Oregon and Upper California" by Fremont and Preuss (1 foot 6 inches x 2 feet) "Plan of the Route of the Expedition of Major Beale...for the Relief of the Wagons of Mr. F. X. Aubrey against the Apache Indians" (5 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 inches) This report is similar to House Doc. 17 published the same year but differs somewhat in content (correspondence and reports). The maps in both volumes are identical. Terms of Sale:Personal checks, money orders/cashiers checks, and Paypal only accepted for payment.
