Handmade, hand sewn large & bold eye dazzler star pattern quilt with meticulous & detailed patterned hand stitching, brilliant red, pink, green & yellow colors, original cotton stuffing having seeds & other impurities in fine original old stored in a chest of drawers for a century and longer condition. We found this in an estate in Falmouth Foreside about a month ago. We listed and sold what we purchased from that estate back then. The family was originally from the New York City & Baltimore area. When we found the quilt we included it in our purchase offer. At that time a family member expressed interest in it to the estate and it was with drawn from our lot. We agreed and submitted a purchase value and this was deducted from our total offer. We had no problem doing this for it is common in estate dispersals for this to happen. We also knew what happens next. Surprised, the seeker of the quilt discovered that they had to, in effect, buy the quilt from the estate at the price we'd put on it. They thought they simply got the quilt and that was that. "No, no, no" said the other heirs and the attorneys. This is no surprise to us either but for those who wonder how we get the wonderful things away from people who would keep them by inheritance, it is because they discover that getting them is not "free". The contents of an estate is valued, often single objects are valued and that value is very carefully accounted for in the distribution. As estate buyers with experience, we know five heirs can never agree on anything but dollars. So do the attorneys. The quilt was, to no surprise, offered to us again at our purchase valuation. We now list it. It's a wonderful quilt. It was used once, probably in the mid 19th Century and has some faint, minor and old stains from that use. By the 1880's it was in a dresser drawer and has been in one ever since. The pattern is stunning. The colors are bright. The quilting is magnificent. When held to the light the cotton stuffing is full of seeds and impurities proving it's age. It's in great condition with no odor. It is truly the best quilt we will find and offer for a while so don't miss out. Very good as found condition. The red fabric has nearly all of the brown print spots deteriorated as is usual for this fabric dye. This leaves little hole in the fabric w every one of these spots once were. Again, this is common for this dye, is only on the red fabric on this quilt, does no damage other than this and is actually an assurance of the quilt's age. The photographs show this clearly. Otherwise t are no other tears, holes or fabric deterioration. The quilt fabric is, in fact, in fine strong condition. T are three dots at an edge corner were something such as three drops of bleach got on the fabric. These are nothing T are old & faint stains visible on the back but not on the front except at the bottom edge w one may hunt the stain line down. These are minor and do not distress the viewing of the quilt. Without hunting these down, they are not visible. Otherwise the quilt is in fine, clean condition ready to be hung on the wall and dazzle everyone's eyes. This is does very well. Again, this is the finest quilt we have found or will be offering for quite a while. Please see photographs. As found last month in an estate in Falmouth Foreside, Maine . Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in a dresser drawer. We have done nothing to it at all; it is just as we found it. It looks like good ...
