They all have been great with CUSTOMERS & FRIENDS like YOU!! c 1850 FRENCH Playing Cards Complete 52 FULL FIGURES 4 Continents Set / FULL DECK WONDERFUL ART WORK!! NR! What a wonderful set of playing cards, (we were told these are circa 1840-1860 and are called a four continents set), a complete deck, with 52 cards (the Jokers were invented in 1850, which leads us to believe this is an earlier date.) The face cards feature a full figure, no numbers or letters on any of the cards, the non face card each has a full card picture. So t are 52 different illustrations on these. Each Suit seems to be a different Continent and story, Hearts seems to be of India/ ASIA, Spades seems to be Persia / OTTOMAN, Clubs seems to be Spain, King Ferdinand, Queen Isabella and Columbus / NEW WORLD (see the American Indians on the non face cards) and Diamonds seem to be France and King Charlemagne / Europe. Made for the French Market, the corner of each card says in French, "cartes à jouer". They are marked in various places B. Dondorf A Francfort s/Mein. For their age, in excellent condition.
