Postal History Very interesting early southern letter ! Three page stampless folded letter written June 30, 1850 by Nathaniel Davis in Memphis, Tennessee and sent to (Nat ?) Hart Davis at Montgomery C.H. (Court House) in Texas (scarce destination !) Writer talks rather extensively about cotton plantations, tough growing conditions, even the largest plantations are only harvesting half of their crops, financial conditions, people taking money out of banks, fight on a plantation resulted in a "n*gger" (slave) biting the ear off a plantation owner.... Much to read and study in this amazing letter. Also talks about folks moving to Texas, I presume to seek better times. Chats about rht erise of FEDERALISM in Texas ! Enlarged scans provided for your research benefit. Postmark is a blue Memphis, Ten. CDS with a manucirpt rate mark. A previous collector saw fit to apply their tiny blue mark on the reverse panel side - I fail to understand what gives a collector - no matter how famous they think they are - the right to do this ! Letter fully intact and in good shape Terms $1.00 postage in the United States, and only $ 2.00 elsewhere. We combine postage for multiple purchases. Postal insurance and registration extra.
