This is to Certify, That John G. Jowett has, under the provisions of An Act of the Legislature of the State of Texas, entitled "An Act to provide for ascertaining the Debt of the late Republic of Texas," approved 20th March 1848, filed with the Auditor and Comptroller, a claim for Beef furnished troops under Gen. Dyer in 1838 amounting to Twenty five dollars (this is a clear reference to Gen. Dyer of Texas who commanded troops in 1838 during the Texas Indian Wars.) " Signed at the conclusion by Comptroller James B. Shaw and Auditor John M. Swisher.The document measures approximately 10.5 x 12 inches in size and is signed in fountain pen.
