Antique Civil War era New England EAPG clear flint glass New England pineapple pattern spill (to hold rolled paper for lighting lamps) or spooner (to hold teaspoons for stirring sugar in tea) with its original pleasingly strong lines, form, classic pattern and flint glass qualities in nearest perfect original condition noting an old 1/4" under bottom rim edge flake and a 1/16" under bottom rim edge flea bite , as found, and retaining lightest old estate soiling, as found . New England , Boston area, 1850, possibly earlier. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1 1/3 lbs . 2 7/8" diameter at the base by 5" tall. Very good ring. Good base wear. We found this… sparkling… and classically attractive EAPG New England pineapple pattern clear flint glass …spooner or spill …neatly stored in a Civil War era farm near Canton , Maine . In this estate we found a large scattering of early glassware mixed with the scattered early china. As we have mentioned in the past, this estate, with its hidden treasures of true old New England finery, was once the property of a prominent coastal trading family that has declined since the Civil War… "killed the sons". This spooner or spill easily stands alone as elegant New England finery , dazzles with its sparkle AND functions when filled with one's… coin silver teaspoons.
