1850s DAGUERREOTYPE GUTTA PERCHA UNION CASE by A.P. CRITCHLOW & CO, LIKE NEW See pictures and Condition description for additional information. Beautiful, 1850’s "Gutta Percha” / Thermoplastic Daguerreotype / Photograph Hard Case. This beautiful Union Case measures approx. 3 1/4” by 3 3/4” (outer measurements) and the interior opening would accommodate one images. The molded design on the front and back of the Case are identical. This central image is surrounded by an elaborate flourish "frame" and border. The case is a dark, rich and warm brown color and exceptionally attractive. The case contains no images but does retain its original and beautiful elaborately decorated, pressed brass matts, brass bindings and original cover glasses. The base also retains the original advertising sheet of the manufacturer - A. P. CRITCHLOW & Co. - on the inside. This rare and stunningly beautiful, 1850's Union Case is in excellent condition. The molded images on both sides are crisp and sharp with no wear to even the highest points of the design. The surface is bright and retains its original brilliant surface shine. The case closes squarely and latches tightly. The inner components of the case are also exceptionally well preserved and stunningly beautiful.
