This is probably one of the most amazing autograph albums Iâe(tm)ve had in a long time. I first want to say that I am not an expert in this field but everyone of the signatures from the album that Iâe(tm)ve compared to on the web (and t were too many for me to compare them all) matched, but again, I am not an expert. Also, you can tell that none of them were written by the same hand, all are different and unique. T were too many names to look them all up, so Iâe(tm)m only mentioning a few of the 100âe(tm)s represented in this album. In fact t are about 240 signatures and each one that I looked up seemed to be politically famous in one way or another. Some were senators, governors, civil war soldiers or military figures in some way. T were also many members of congress and so much more. T are only two dates in this album and both of them are from the 1850âe(tm)s and I believe most of the signatures are from that era, possibly the 1860âe(tm)s too. On the very first page of the album t is an inscription that says, "Very Truly I am Yours, N. P. Banks Jr. Waltham Mass." http://www.archives.gov/northeast/boston/exhibits/banks/ Then one of the best signatures in this book is of Thomas M Bernhisel who was a very close friend of Joseph Smith, who was famous of course with the Mormon religion. T are some pretty amazing web sites about Mr. Bernhisel but the most basic one I found was; /wiki/John_Milton_Bernhisel T are a few others I wanted to highlight ; Howell Cobb /nge/Article.jsp?id=h-615 J. Letcher Confederate Gov. of Virginia during the Civil War /wiki/John_Letcher Edward Dodd, U.S. Representative /wiki/Edward_Dodd Joseph Lane, Oregonâe(tm)s first territorial governor /LANEHOUSE.htm and /wiki/Joseph_Lane Cadwallader C Washburn, Politician and civil war soldier /wiki/Cadwallader_C._Washburn William Aiken /wiki/Gov._William_Aiken_House I couldnâe(tm)t possibly list all the names in this album, donâe(tm)t have the time but some examples are (and please note some of them are tough to read so I might have misspelled the names); John R. Edie Somerset PA, N. G. Foster, Humphrey Marshall Springport Ky, John Wheeler New York City, W. A. Lake Vicksburg Mississippi, F. S. Edwards Fredonia New York, George Eustis New Orleans La, C. L. Knapp Lowell Massachusetts, H. C. Burnett Cadiz Kentucky, Smith Miller Dakota Indiana, Thomas Green Davidson Louisiana, J. M. Parker Oswego New York, Jacob Broom Philadelphia, Percy Walker Mobile Alabama, Paulus Powell Amherst, Henry W. Hoffman Cumberland MD, W. W. Cobb Bellefonte Alabama, Edward Ball Zanesville Ohio, John S. Phelps Springfield MO, C. C. Chaffee Springfield Massachusetts, John W. Whilfield Leavenworth City Kansas, D. Evans Marshall Texas, and more. The album measures about 6" x 7 ½" and the cover is very worn and at one time it looks as though the edge was burnt BUT, that didnâe(tm)t affect the pages inside. However the pages do have a good amount of foxing but all are securely attached to the binding. Also please remember, I am not an expert in the field of autographing collecting so this is a buy as is auction.
