Antique handmade and hand carved small pistol or pocket powder horn. Maine , 1850, probably earlier. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 1/4 lbs. 6 1/2" long by 2 1/8" wide at the bottom end. Handmade from a carved steer horn with a pine wood bottom plug steel pinned in place and retaining it's original old dry surface. These small horns were used to carry a small reserve of gun powder to supply a pistol or, more often on a Maine farm, the brief late afternoon "walk around". Or down the road to the head when they "come down through" "now". This hunting is not done full equipment laden. One puts a few bullets in the gun and a few in the pocket. 150 years ago this horn went in the pocket. Then one "walks around" for about... a long twenty minutes... to get back before t is a "W were you?". Very good as found condition. T is nothing wrong with the horn at all. It had a strap wire in the end at one time but that is long gone. It spent most of it's hunting life in a jacket pocket. Now it displays quietly on a shelf or desk top. Absolutely untouched and as found. Right out of the farm house, it has appropriate surface
