Here's three folded letters, they look like the kind that were once with an envelope, but the envelopes are long gone. The datelines are: Kaukauna 28 Augt '51 [1851 Kaukauna Feb 3rd 1852 Monday June 6th 1853 The 1851 letter is two pages on a single sheet, written by Stephen Leonard to his son. The 1852 letter is three and a half pages on a single sheet, from Corneil on the first page and a half to her brother, and the rest from Stephen Leonard to his son. The 1853 letter is from sister Elizabeth L. Norton and some from Corneil, four pages on a small single sheet, to her brother. I believe she was in the Leonard family. I think Stephen Leonard was from Lowville, NY. In Elizabeth's letter she turns the sheet upside down on two pages and writes between the lines. Some abstracts: [1851] "It is now one month since we parted at Lowville and we have only rec'd one letter and dated on 31 of last month at Lowevill. I am not at this place and have concluded to spend the winter here and I am making calculations to board our selves as soon as we can get our beding. Your uncle has ...." "Your mother and Corneila left here ysterday afternoon for the Bay have bin absent from the Bay 2 weeks on the way up & down." ".... through Lake Huron a while a rough time all the passengers [????] for 3 or 4 hours after that time had good time to
